By developing partnerships with non-for-profit organisations, the foundation improves the economic and social situation of women and adolescent girls around the world through a multidimensional and holistic approach, addressing issues related to safety and economic autonomy. Fondation CHANEL currently supports 24 initiatives across Asia, including Japan and India. We are looking for an innovative and passionate Programme Officer to join the regional foundation team. As part of Fondation CHANEL, the Asia Programme Officer will work collaboratively with the entire foundation team, based in London, New York, Paris, Mexico City and Singapore, and maintain a cross-functional relationship with the Operations, Finance, and Communications Departments, as well as key stakeholders within CHANEL. This position reports to the Head of Asia, Fondation CHANEL and collaborates closely with Programme Managers on specific partner relationships. Fondation CHANEL is committed to gender equality and diversity. Develop and manage a philanthropic portfolio across targeted countries to advance Fondation CHANEL’s theory of change

  • Support Programme Managers to implement the regional strategy in Asia
  • Coordinate, support, and as appropriate, execute partner prospecting initiatives in line with the Asia strategy and in compliance with internal procedures
  • Support partners in articulating their grant activities in proposals, prepare grant selection files for internal approval, and liaise with partners to ensure smooth communications throughout the approval process
  • Monitor partner reporting and grant burn rate to spot early signs of implementation difficulty
  • Support Operations and Finance teams with compliance, due diligence, grant agreement negotiation, financial administration, and project evaluations
  • Organise site visits, and as appropriate, participate in and write travel insight reports
  • Build trust-based partnerships with partners
Contribute to the deepening and broadening of an ecosystem committed to gender equality
  • Lead on building the substantive content and agenda setting for internal Seminars and external Ensembles that are based in Asia, including capturing/disseminating learnings
  • Participate, as appropriate, in key networks in Asia that would be strategic for Fondation CHANEL
  • Develop and maintain constructive working relationships with key stakeholders across Asia
  • Support, and as appropriate, represent Fondation CHANEL in various gender equality and philanthropic bodies and national and regional conferences, bringing key learnings back to the team
  • Participate and coordinate learning evaluations with the global operations team, including procurements and insights dissemination
Cultivate and strengthen touchpoints with CHANEL to foster pride among staff and increase understanding about gender equality
  • Collaborate with local markets to spearhead learning opportunities for internal stakeholders about the Fondation CHANEL’s strategy and initiatives
  • Identify, foster, and organise opportunities to communicate respectfully the work of Fondation CHANEL’s partners to the business, and as appropriate, develop engagement touchpoints
  • Participate in the development and execution of the Fondation CHANEL's communication plan, with a focus on creating content for internal dissemination
  • Collaborate and liaise with the USA, Europe, and UK foundation teams on various cross-functional initiatives
What you can bring to the team…
  • Knowledge and passion for gender equality, including work experience in the areas of gender based violence, sexual and reproductive health rights, grassroots climate adaptation, or the care economy
  • Experience in building movements, supporting advocacy
  • Understanding of Asia Pacific market dynamics and specificities with direct experience working in at least three markets in the region
  • Project management and stakeholder relationship skills
  • Empathy, humility, self-awareness, curiosity, and agility
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly the ability to synthesise complex information into written communiques
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to high quality execution

Academic Qualifications
  • University degree in international development, social sciences, economics, or humanities.
Requirements
  • Minimum 5-8 years of experience in gender equality focused philanthropy or international development in Asia.
  • Experience working to prevent violence against women and girls, to protect sexual and reproductive health rights, to facilitate climate adaptation, and/or to expand women’s economic autonomy.
  • Strong relationship and project management experience.
  • Fluency in English is required. Other languages are desirable, particularly those spoken in Asia.
  • Willingness to travel frequently (approximately 30% of working time).
